Welcome to the fourth year of Music at St.Giles. We are excited to bring you five fantastic programmes, chosen in collaboration with Dougie Scarfe from the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
We open in June with one of the great pianists of our time, Paul Lewis followed in July by the Kungsbacka Trio including the BSO’s very own Principal Cello, Jesper Svedberg. For the autumn concerts we are delighted to host the amazing Voces8, the brilliant Nemanja Radulovic and finally with the wonderful Soloists of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Each performance is
accompanied by canapés and a two-course dinner.

International star and one of the most fascinating musicians of his generation, Melvyn Tan will perform the final piano works of two of the greatest composers for the instrument, Beethoven and Brahms. Following his pioneering performances on the fortepiano in the 1980s, Tan now performs on the modern piano and has a remarkable ability to conjure subtle new colours and delicate shadings from the modern concert grand.

There is a magical intensity about the string quartet and never more so than in Beethoven’s final String Quartet, which Robert Schumann described as having a “grandeur which no words can express”. This leading UK quartet also explores the close affinities of the music of Henry Purcell and Benjamin Britten, arguably two of Britain’s best-known composers.

The performance of Schubert’s Winterreise in a special new English translation will take you on a journey to the setting of Wilhelm Muller’s poetry. Roderick Williams, one of our finest baritones and great communicators, returns to St. Giles for Schubert’s extraordinary narrative of a spurned lover travelling through a cold and barren landscape.
