THE HISTORY OF ST GILES
As an ancestral home of the Earls of Shaftesbury, St Giles House has an extensive amount of history dating back to 1651, a fascinating and charismatic stately home in the heart of East Dorset.
As a place to unwind and escape from the hustle and bustle of our modern day lives, St Giles House once used to be in state of disrepair, following the Second World War. However, in 2010 the charming country house was given a revival, and four years later it is an award-winning restoration project.
The restoration has won several awards, including:
- 2014 Georgian Group Awards for restoration of a Georgian Country House
- The 2015 Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Award for Building Conservation
- 2015 Historic Houses Association/ Sotheby’s Restoration Award
- Historic England Angel Award
- Best Rescue of a Historic Building or Site.
